All books are subject to recall. Books may be recalled immediately requested for course reserve, or after 2 weeks if requested by another library patron. Recall due dates supercede all previous due dates. Non-return of recalled materials will result in blocked borrowing privileges. Higher fines are assessed on items that have been recalled. Recall notices are delivered by U.S. or campus mail.
If you wish to recall a book that is currently checked out from the Bio-Medical Library you may phone 612-626-4045 or complete the recall form for books owned by the Bio-Medical Library. Books from other campus libraries may be recalled here
Recalls are available only for patrons with a valid University of Minnesota U Card.
Items that are recalled are due in approximately ten days, and recall due dates supercede all previous due dates. When the book is returned, it will be held for you at the Circulation Desk on the 3rd floor of the Bio-Medical Library. You will be notified by mail when the book is available. Patrons with a valid U Card may wish to use the Point to Point service for delivery to a library on another campus, or Libraries to U for delivery to on-or-off-campus locations (eligibility for services may vary by your status; a fee may apply for certain services).

Library materials are due by the date indicated on the due date slip given when an item is checked out. Overdue notices are courtesy notices only. Failure to receive an overdue notice will not be accepted as a reason to cancel fines. Fines are assessed at the rates listed below. Borrowing privileges will be blocked due to unpaid fines.
Regular Books and Periodicals:
Overdue - $.50 per day/$15 maximum
Recalled - $1.00 per day/$20 maximum
Recalled for Reserve - $5.00 per day/$50 maximum
Overnight Periodicals (due at 8:30am):
Overdue - $3.00 per day
Reserve Materials:
Overdue - $.50 per hour to $5.00, and then $2.00 per day additional fine.
*Rates are subject to change without prior notice
Library materials not returned will be subject to maximum overdue fines, replacement costs, and a $10.00 processing fee.
Borrowers may provide the library with a replacement of the lost item that is of the same or a later edition. Note that overdue and processing fees will still apply, but the replacement fee will be waived.
If an item that has been billed as lost is returned, replacement and processing fees will be waived, but the patron is still responsible for any overdue fines. Should a patron pay for a lost item, and later find and return it to the library, the patron will be refunded the replacement fee only. If a period of one year from the time the payment was made passes and a lost item is returned, the patron is no longer eligible for a refund.
Fines incurred at the Bio-Medical Library can be paid at the:
Attn: Fines
Bio-Medical Library
505 Essex St. S.E., Room314
Minneapolis, MN 55455
Please note, you may make payments at the Bursar, but it will delay processing of your payment so that your account may not get credited until 1-2 weeks after sending your payment. If you have a hold on your academic record due to Bio-Medical Library fines, please send your payment to the Bio-Medical Library directly so that it can be resolved as soon as possible.
If you have any questions about fines policies or wish to speak with the Bio-Medical Library Fines Clerk to discuss your fines, contact the Bio-Medical Library Circulation desk at 612-626-4045 or send e-mail to biomcirc@tc.umn.edu to schedule an appointment.
TOPBio-Medical Library materials may be renewed in several ways. Be sure to request renewals before the due date to avoid fines. Many items in the collection are non-renewable. Requesting a renewal for a non-renewable item will not prevent fines from being assessed.
We prefer renewals by phone - please call 612-626-4045. If renewal by phone is inconvenient, you may renew via E-mail or in-person or by fax (612-626-2454). Renewals may also be mailed to:
Circulation
Bio-Medical Library
505 Essex St. S.E.
Minneapolis, MN 55455
Library materials may not be renewed if the renewal limit has been reached, a recall or hold has been placed on the item, or your U Card or borrowing card has expired.
You are responsible for knowing the new due date of library materials. Library materials from other U of M libraries can be renewed here.
TOPAll library borrowers are subject to blocked borrowing privileges if they have overdue or lost materials or unpaid fines/fees. Due to system security procedures only selected staff are authorized to look at your records or to negotiate the removal of a block.
You will NOT be subject to blocks if you return/renew your materials on a timely basis.
The library can provide you with a list of materials currently charged to you. If you need such a list contact the circulation desk (612-626-4045 or by E-mail.). By law, this is private and confidential information, therefore issuing such lists is regulated by strict security procedures.

The automated circulation system uses the address in your official University record. If you have listed a campus address, that is the address to which all notices will be sent. Please be sure your address is accurate. If the address in the University files is not current, you will not receive essential library communications.
Students may change their address electronically through the One Stop.
Staff and faculty may change their address through One Stop or contact their department.
If you have a temporary address change, the library can enter a temporary override so that mail can be sent to a different address for a specified period of time. To request a temporary change of address, call (612) 626-4045 or email your request.
